Most Thais would have rejected Trump: Poll

Most Thais say if they were American they would not have elected Donald Trump as president, according to an opinion poll by National Institute of Development Administration, or Nida Poll.

The poll was conducted on Nov 23-25 on 1,251 Thai people with a bachelor's degree education and above throughout the country to compile their opinions on the election of Donald Trump as the 45th president of the United States.

Asked whether they would vote for Mr Trump if they were American citizens, most of the respondents, or 48.68%, said "no"; 41.69% said "yes"; and the rest were not certain.

Asked what they thought the US would be like with Mr Trump as president, the respodents said the US would become more protectionist in trade and this would have a negative impact on Thai exports (23.58%); Mr Trump would make the US economy stronger (22.22%); the world economy and security would become uncertain (20.70%); Mr Trump would run the US administration like the CEO of a business firm (17.83%); American people had set their own trap by electing a nationalist and racist with no respect for women's rights (17.67%); the US jobless rate would drop because of an anti-immgrant policy (15.43%); and, the US would reduce its role as the world's policeman, and the world would be more in peace (15.03%).
