CHIANG MAI -- The Core Hotel in Muang district has been suddenly ordered closed because it does not have an operating licence.

One of the shareholders of the hotel is Krisna "Ball" Amitrasoon, a boyfriend of actress Lakana "Aum"  Wattanawongsiri.

Mr Krisna claims to be co-owner of Malin Sky pub, which was ordered closed on Sunday following a brawl in which a son of an army general was beaten up on Friday night, allegedly attacked by security guards over use of the pub’s washroom, which was being used by TV celebrities including Ms Lakana.

On Monday, Chainarong Nantasai, an assistant chief of Muang district, led about 50 military, police and administrative officials to the Core Hotel about 2.30pm, after receiving a complaint that it was operating illegally.

The hotel is located opposite Chiang Mai University.  It has 56 guest rooms and a rooftop restaurant.  The hotel was opened in late 2015 on land held under a 10-year lease.  It has a number of shareholders, one of them Mr Krisna.

Mr Chainarong said the hotel was found to be operating without a permit. The manager said the hotel was still in the process of applying for an operating licence.  It had only a copy of the application for the building's  construction.

Therefore, the hotel was ordered closed.  The management was charged with violating the Hotel Act and is liable to a maximum one year jail term and a daily fine of 10,000 baht.

It was not known if the hotel's closure was linked to the closure of the Malin Sky pub.
