Meeting invites new King to take the throne

The National Legislative Assembly on Tuesday morning met to acknowledge the accession of the Crown Prince to the throne.

The meeting followed a special meeting of the cabinet and the National Council for Peace and Order on Tuesday morning  on extending the invitation to the new King to take the throne.

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said the meeting took about one hour at Government House.

Officials would have an audience with HRH the Crown Prince on Thursday, said Gen Prawit who is also the defence minister.

The National Legislative Assembly would meet on Tuesday to acknowledge the resolution on the succession to the throne of King Rama X, he said.

The NLA met at the auspicious time of 11.19am.

Assembly president Pornpetch Wichitcholchai informed the meeting of a most urgent letter from Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to the assembly on the succession to the throne and the past appointment of HRH the Crown Prince as Heir.

The prime minister formally asked the assembly to convene and acknowledge the succession.

Mr Pornpetch said he would extend the invitation for the royal succession. After the assembly's acknowledgment, Mr Pornpetch led assemblymen to extend their best wishes to His Majesty the King: "Long live the King."

The NLA concluded the session at 11.24am.
