NAKHON SAWAN - A fire swept through five houses owned by one family in Muang district on Thursday.

The owners were all at work when the fire began. They rushed home, only to find their houses fire-gutted  and personal belongings in ashes.

The blaze was reported around noon in village Moo 1 of tambon Khwae Yai, said Pol Maj Peerapan Wanthee, a duty officer at Nong Pling police station.

Three fire trucks and crews called to the scene were confronted with five fiercely burning wooden houses in a family compound.

Firefighters took more than one hour to put out the blaze, which destroyed all five houses, a pickup truck, two motorcycles and personal possessions.

The houses belonged to Thonglom Kaewklom, 60, and her four adult children.

Neighbours told police they saw flames coming from the house of Mrs Thonglom and then spreading to her children’s houses in the same compound.

The owners rushed to their homes on learning of the fire, but were loo late to save anything.

Police believed an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire. They were investigating.
