RATCHABURI: A man who allegedly made guns and sold them on the Line mobile chat application was arrested at his house in Ban Pong district on Saturday.

Officers said that Charatpong Saimai, 35, was making a gun in the compound of the house in tambon Ban Pong when police arrived to arrest him.

They seized three homemade guns, an electric drill, a power saw and other items used for making firearms.

Mr Charatpong has been charged with illegal possession of firearms, making, assembling and selling them without permission.

Pol Lt Col Nat Thaenwitthayanont, deputy chief of the Ban Pong police station, led the raid following a complaint that guns were being offered for sale via Line, the most popular chat app in Thailand with about 35 million users.

Police said the suspect told him that he only repaired guns at the request of customers with whom he communicated on Line. He insisted he had not sold guns over the internet, but police said they were not convinced by his remark.

He was being held in police custody at the Ban Pong police station pending further legal action.
