The current active low pressure over Sumatra, which is slowly moving in a northeasterly direction, and the strong northeast monsoon across the Gulf of Thailand and the South will result in heavy rain in the lower South on Dec 4-5, according to the Meteorological Department.

On Dec 4, the provinces to be most affected are Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Ranong, Phangnga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun.

On Dec 5, heavy rain will prevail over Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Ranong, Phangnga, Phuket and Krabi.

People should beware of severe weather conditions and possible flash floods, and all kinds of transportation should proceed with caution, said the announcement.

Strong winds will result in waves 2-3 metres high in the Gulf of Thailand. All vessels should proceed with caution, and small boats should stay ashore. People in the Gulf area should also beware of inshore surge until Dec 5.
