Chinese visitor dies after Koh Samet swim

RAYONG - A Chinese visitor to Koh Samet was drowned and later announced dead after taking a swim off the island on Monday.

Friends of Chen Mengyuan, 23, saw her shouting for help before disappearing before their eyes after she swam on a beach on Koh Samet in Muang district.

Rescue workers and friends dived to help her and gave the visitor first aid before referring her to Samet hospital and later Rayong hospital on the mainland, according to Pol Maj Sakon Khamyingyong, an investigator of Phe police station.

She was later announced dead. The cause of the death has not been confirmed.

The visitor checked in at a resort with four friends on Saturday.
