Pol Capt Decha Dindaen, deputy chief investigator of Muang district police, said the accident occurred about 11.30pm near Moo 4 village in tambon Nong Mai Daeng.

Jakrapong, who won several championships racing cars in Thailand, left Bangkok early on Wednesday night with about 30 other bikers, heading for Bang Saen beach, he said.

On the Chon Buri by-pass Jakrapong lost control of his big bike, which ran into a signpost and a power pole on the roadside.

Jakrapong's neck was broken in the crash and he died at the scene.

Police were investigating to establish what caused the accident.
