NARATHIWAT - Four border patrol police got a minor injury in a bomb attack while travelling in a vehicle in Sungai Kolok district on Monday morning.

After being alerted of the bomb at 10.20am, police at the Muno station sent a team of explosive ordnance disposal and forensic officials to the scene.

Bomb parts in a steel box indicated around 10 kilogrammes of explosives might have been used and triggered remotely by radio communication. A damaged pickup truck and motorcycle were found near the scene.

Four policemen were sent to the hospital with chest pains and ringing in their ears. They are Pol Sen Sgt Maj Prasert Kaeosri, Pol Clp Kraiphop Prasert, Pol Clp Kiatisak Sakhun and Pol Pfc Thaktin Wanla.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Pol Sen Sgt Maj Prasert led a team of six policemen in a pickup truck and a motorcycle on a patrol mission. About one kilometre from their base, the bomb planted at a village sign was triggered.

The police suspected the attack was the work of insurgents.
