An arrest warrant was approved on Wednesday for a man captured on CCTV footage who allegedly raped an Australian woman in Bangkok’s Taling Chan district in the early hours of Dec 5.

Pol Col Kritsana Pattanacharoen, deputy police spokesman, said  the Taling Chan Kwaeng Court approved the warrant for the suspect.

The 23-year-old Australian woman lodged a complaint with Taling Chan police, accusing a tuk-tuk driver and another man of sexually assaulting her in a vacant lot beside the deserted Wattachak building on Boromratchonnanee Soi 43 in Taling Chan district around 4am on Dec 5.

Police examined footage from closed-circuit television cameras in the area around the time the attack was said to have occurred, and identified a suspect.

Pol Col Kritsana said the man had been convicted of similar offences in the past and was released from prison two months ago.

Police were tracking him down.
