AYUTTHAYA – Operators of illegal hotels in 16 districts of Ayutthaya have been given until March 1 next year to get proper building permission and a licence for their businesses, or they will be closed down.

The warning was issued at a meeting called by the clerk of Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya,  Apinant Phuekphong, with 100 operators of legal and illegal hotels in the province.

Under an agreed memorandum of understanding the hotels are required to improve their quality and standards to meet the requirements of the Hotel Act, and seek permission to run a hotel by March 1, 2017.

Mr Apinant said hotels found operating without a proper permit after the deadline would be closed immediately.

Officials were told to be strict with law enforcement for all hotels, and to ensure they conformed.

Mr Apinant said the goal was to ensure  all establishments  operated under the same law, without one having an advantage over the other. All hotels should have the same safety standards, with installed closed circuit cameras, guest registration, drug free and pay all legal taxes.
