Low visibility again delays flights at Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI -- Heavy fog and poor visibility again delayed flights at Chiang Mai airport on Wednesday morning.

Flight control suspended all operations for 10 minutes, delaying the landings of four flights and departure of one.

Grp Capt Wisuth Janthana, director of Chiang Mai international airport, said at 7.30am visibility was down to about 500 metres and the airport lights were turned on and a safety warning issued to airlines.

By 7.40am visibility had closed to 100 metres and all flight operations were suspended. Normal ooperations resumed about 7.50am, around 10 minutes later.

The low visibility delayed the landing of Thai Smiles Flight WE150 (Donmueang - Chiang Mai) from 7.40am to 8.05am; Thai AirAsia Flight FD101 (U-taphao - Chiang Mai) from 7.50am to 8.20am; Thai AirAsia Flight FD3437 (Donmueang- Chiang Mai) from 7.50am to 8.17am; and Nok Air Flight DD8302 (Donmueang - Chiang Mai) from 8.00am to 8.09am.

The departure of Nok Air Flight DD8301 (Chiang Mai - Don Mueang) was delayed from 7.45am to 8.09am.

Fog also  shut down the airport on Tuesday morning, for a longer period.
