Police have fined the male driver of a passenger van for urinating on Phetkasem Highway in the middle of Hua Hin tourist district in Prachuap Khiri Khan.
Facebook user Sittichai Saibua posted a 17-second video clip of the driver standing beside his Bangkok-Prachuap Khiri Khan van and behind his opened door facing the front view of his vehicle while urinating on the national highway passing the heart of Hua Hin on Saturday.
Hua Hin police chief Sitthichai Srisophacharoenrat said police reached the van driver through its licence plate number seen in the clip. The driver confessed to doing the unacceptable act but claimed that he suffered from a bladder infection and had to pass urine frequently.
The driver, whom the local police chief identified only as Mr Wat, was driving his empty van back home in Tha Yang district of Phetchaburi.
The van was stopped at a red light of an intersection near Talad Chatchai market and he said he had to relieve himself because he did not have a bottle or a bag in his van, Pol Col Sitthichai said.
He apologised for his act, was fined 1,000 baht for urinating in a public place and warned not to repeat it, the officer said.
