Insurance firm apologises to nurses over advertisement

Thai Life Insurance Plc on Wednesday apologised to the Thailand Nursing and Midwifery Council for its latest commercial, after criticism it misrepresented the nursing profession.

Duangduen Kongkasawad, executive vice president of the company, sent a letter of apology to Assoc Prof Tassana Boontong, president of the council.

The letter referred to a commercial entitled "Opportunity", which in one scene showed an insurance agent bowing down in front of a nurse, seeking treatment for a client's child.

The letter said the commercial was intended to present the values of life and love. The content was developed to encourage viewers to freely interpret its message based on individual experience. There was no intention to present a negative image of the nursing profession.

She said the company had taken note of the comments and suspended use of the commercial. It would be re-edited before it was put back on air early next month.

The statement was in response to complaints about the commercial made on Tuesday.
