Four killed in Chachoengsao car crash

CHACHOENGSAO - Four people were killed and another injured when their car hit a tree in the ditch and caught fire on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred at kilometre marker 101 on Highway No.304 in Phanom Sarakham district at 8am. A black Mercedes-Benz with a 1 kor nor 352 Bangkok licence plate carrying three men and two women skidded off the road and crashed into a tree in the ditch which separates opposite lanes.  

The severe collision sparked a fire in the front part of the car, which quickly spread to more than half of it. The driver and two women passengers trapped inside the vehicle were found dead. 

Police identified the driver as Amornrit Thawornsatit, 63, and one of the women as Sarinyaporn Ratchatachai-anand, 65, both Bangkok natives. The other woman has yet to be identified.

The other two unidentified men were injured, one of them seriously. They were taken to Phanom Sarakham hospital. One of them was transferred to Buddhasothorn hospital and pronounced dead later. 

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
