Two earthquakes hit Tak's Umphang

TAK -- Two earthquakes - one a moderate magnitude 3.9 and the other a minor 2.4 - hit Umphang district of this border province early Sunday, the Seismology Bureau of the Thai Meteorological Department reported.

There were no reports of damage or casualties.

Prateep Phothiam, the Umphang district chief, said the first quake with magnitude 3.9, occurred at 3.08am about five kilometres underground, and another minor 2.4 tremor at 3.30am.

Mr Prateep said he had instructed the leaders of all local administration offices to examine if the quakes had caused any damage.
