PATTAYA -- A Finnish man broke both his arms after he jumped about five metres into the underground road tunnel being dug on Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya Klang on Sunday.

The unidentified man who is aged around 25-30 and wearing only shorts, made the jump from the tunnel overpass onto the road surface below, which is part of an underpass now under construction, at 7am, according to witnesses.

Paramedics arriving at the scene found him lying face up on the road with both arms broken, head injuries and crying with pain.

No one knew why he jumped, said Pol Col Apichai Krobpetch, chief of Muang Pattaya police station. The injured man has been unable to give a statement except to say that he was from Finland.

Sanarm Changlek, 54, a motorcycle taxi rider said he saw the foreigner run from the soi where Siam Country Club golf course is located, and crossed the road to stand on the tunnel overpass.

“He stood there waving his hands, making me wonder if he was drunk," Mr Sanarm said. "Less than five minutes later, he jumped to the ground and seriously hurt himself.”
