Heavy rain forecast for lower South Jan 18-22

More rain is expected over the lower South on Jan 18-22 as a moderate high pressure zone covers the Northeast and South China Sea and a stronger northeast monsoon prevailed across the Gulf of Thailand and the South, the Meteorological Department said on Tuesday.

On Jan 17, isolated heavy rain is forecast especially for Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.

On Jan 18-22, isolated heavy rain is expected in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Trang and Satun.

From today until Sunday, strong winds over the Gulf will result in waves of up to 2-3 metres.  People along the Gulf of Thailand's coastline should beware of inshore surf.  All vessels should proceed with caution and small boats keep ashore.

In Trang province, the flooding has eased in  all districts except Muang and Kantang, where some low-lying spots are still 50-80 centimetres under water.

In tambons Nong Trut, Nataluang, Bang Rak and Khuan Pring of Muang district, roads in many villages are still flooded.  Villagers are using temporary boats made of foam to travel from theirshelters to their villages to check on their property.

Prapas Santeng, 59, a Moo 5 villager in tambon Khuan Pring, said his village is still 50-80cm under water.  His and 16 other families are still living in tents set up on a bypass, waiting for the floodwater to recede.
