9,000 rai of illegally occupied land identified in Khao Yai park

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Conservation plans to reclaim 1,478 blocks of occupied land, totalling 8,965 rai, in Nakhon Nayok province found to be within the borders of Khao Yai National Park.

Chaiwat Limlikit-aksorn, head of the department's Paya Sua special task force reclaiming forest land, on Wednesday led a 50-strong team to survey forest land  occupied by local residents in Nakhon Nayok. 

They the occupants of  found 1,478 blocks of land covering 8,965 rai  had no land documents, and that the properties were inside the national park, Daily News Online reported.

The land was at popular Nang Rong waterfall, Khundan Prakanchon dam and areas around Wang Bon reservoir in Nakhon Nayok province. A survey map confirmed those areas were part of Khao Yai National Park.

The task force would reclaim the land and take action against encroachers, Mr Chaiwat said.
