Commuters have been urged to plan ahead when using Phahon Yothin Road as a stretch between Soi 34/2 and Kasetsart University intersection will be partially closed from Thursday until February 2019 to allow for construction of the Green Line extension.

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) said on Saturday that the Green Line extension contractor, Italian-Thai Development, needed to close the section to allow heavy machinery to operate.

The MRTA urged motorists and commuters to allow additional time when using the road as construction will slow them down.

The closure is set to take effect from 10pm on Thursday through Feb 9, 2019, the announcement said.

From Jan 26 to Feb 8, the right-most lane of inbound Phahon Yothin Road will be closed, leaving only two lanes available to traffic. There will be an express lane for emergency vehicles.

From Feb 9-19, the right-most lane of outbound Phahon Yothin Road will be closed, leaving two lanes open to traffic.

From Feb 20 to Feb 9, 2019, the right-most lanes on both sides of Phahon Yothin Road will be closed, according to the announcement.

The southern and northern extensions of the Green Line are a joint project between the Transport Ministry, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the MRTA.

The extension is to develop the 12.8-kilometre southern Green Line extension from Bearing to Samut Prakan and the 18.4km northern Green Line extension linking Mor Chit, Saphan Mai and Kukot.

The northern extension is expected to ease traffic problems.
