PATTAYA – Police are looking for an unidentified foreign tourist who fled Pattaya Memorial Hospital after being taken there for treatment of his injury following a brawl with a Russian man on early Monday.

Police said the man had a fight with another tourist identified as Nikita Rodchenko, 21, and stabbed his neck with a broken bottle at Wat Yai Chai Mongkhol intersection in tambon Nong Prua of Bang Lamung district.

Mr Rodchenko had a large laceration on his neck while his rival sustained severe cuts caused by broken glasses to his right hand. It was not known why they were engaged in the brawl.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene with officers from Muang Pattaya police station provided first aid for both men before taking them to Pattaya Memorial Hospital.

But the man ran away from the hospital while paramedics and medical staff were busy rushing Mr Rodchenko to the emergency room. Police chased him but failed to find him. The man apparently escaped to avoid being charged with assaulting the Russian man, they said.

Police said they had kept an eye on hospitals, clinics and drug stores in the area in case the man visited any of them to seek treatment for his injured hand. However, they have not been able to find him as of Monday evening.
