Traffic on the inbound Vibhavadi Rangsit frontage road in front of the cargo warehouse of Don Mueang airport was paralysed for more than four hours after an 18-wheel lorry trailer overturned early Wednesday morning, killing the driver, police said.

Pol Lt Col Chatchai Iamthong, deputy chief investigator of the Vibhavadi police station, said the accident occurred at about 4.30am.

The lorry trailer overturned on the median ditch, dumping its load all over the road.

The driver, identified later as Thongchai Saiphet, 58, was killed in the driver's seat. He was extracted from the wreckage by rescuers of a charity foundation.

A large crane was used to remove the vehicle. It took more than four hours to clear the road for traffic.

The accident caused heavy congestion on the inbound Vibhavadi Rangsit Road.

Police were investigating the cause of the accident.
