TrueVisions wants to cancel 11 more channels

Pay TV operator TrueVisions has sought permission from the telecom regulator to cancel 11 more channels after last month dropping six which featured mainly popular movies.

According to tweets by Supinya Klanganrong, a commissioner of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), the channels to be dropped are Discovery Science, BBC Entertainment, NatGeographic, Cbeebies, DiscoveryKids, M, DMAX, EVE, BlockA, Fashion1 and MUTV.

Ms Supinya, who chaired a meeting of the NBTC’s consumer protection subcommittee, said TrueVisions had proposed a relief plan for the cancellation of 11 channels on Tuesday.

The subcommittee wanted the company to explain its plan at Tuesday’s meeting but the company management was not working because it was Chinese New Year. Ms Supinya said  the company said it had already informed subscribers 30 days in advance.

The new cancellations would affect TrueVisions’ platinum HD subscribers. She asked TrueVisions subscribers to inform the regulator whether they could still view the 11 mentioned channels as the NBTC had yet to give approval to the cancellation.

Twitter user @Ake_Chetsada said most of the channels had been cancelled since November 1, but he has not been informed about the relief plan.

Another user, @xianue, tweeted that the EVE channel had disappeared since late last year while another user said MUTV had been off air since May 2016.

On Jan 1, TrueVisions stopped broadcasting Cinemax, HBO, HBO Hits HD, HBO Signature, HBO Family and Red by HBO.

It is offering seven new channels — Warner TV, Paramount Channel HD, Celestial Classic Movies, Food Network, Fox Action Movies HD, Sony and True Film HD 2 — to immediately replace the cancelled content.

However, the company has not yet satisfied its customers with its relief plan. Ms Supinya has encouraged subscribers to raise their complaints via the NBTC’s hotline. Complainants would be heeded.

A group of over 1,000 subscribers is planning to jointly sue TrueVisions in the Civil Court, seeking compensation for unfair treatment in the cancellation of HBO channels. They are expected to file their case in February.
