B100m in fake brand-name sneakers seized

Customs officials have confiscated counterfeit sports shoes worth at least 100 million baht during a raid at a building in Muang district of Samut Prakan.

Customs Department director-general Kulit Sombatsiri said on Friday that the building was used as a warehouse to store 70,000 pairs of sneakers. Officers who raided the site on Wednesday found shoes bearing top global brands including Adidas, Converse, Nike and Onitsuka Tiger, he added.

Nobody was in the building during the raid.

The counterfeits were estimated to be worth at last 100 million baht, according to the department chief.

All of the seized sneakers were shown to the media on Friday before being handed to the Department of Intellectual Property for destruction.
