CHON BURI - A 45-year-old Finn fleeing an attack sought help at a beer bar after he was stabbed in a street in Pattaya city in the early hours of Thursday.

The attack occurred in an alley near Welcome Jomtien Beach Hotel in tambon Nong Prue of Bang Lamung district, according to police at Pattaya police station. They were informed of the incident around 1.30am.

Juha Kannales, 45, had two stab wounds to his back. He was given first aid by rescue volunteers before being taken to a hospital.

Beer bar employee Jintana Sukkerd, 29, told police a foreigner riding a motorcycle arrived outside the bar and parked. She went out to greet him, as she did other customers. He seemed frightened and asked for help. He told her that he was attacked by a group of Thai men.

Ms Jintana said she saw blood on his back and immediately took him inside the bar to sit down, and then called police.

Mr Kannales was being treated at Pattaya Memorial Hospital. Police said they would question him when he felt up to it, to find out what happened.

Footage from security cameras near the scene of the attack and along the route he rode his bike to seek help would be examined for clues to the attackers, investigators said.
