Three die, 3 hurt in head-on collision

KANCHANABURI -- Three people were killed and three others injured when two pickup trucks collided head-on in Sai Yok district on Thursday morning, police said.

The crash occurred about 10am at kilometre marker 93 on Highway 323 (Kanchaburi - Sai Yok) near Ban Phlu Mai Daeng in tambon Sing. It involved a Toyota Tiger travelling from Sai Yok district to Kanchaburi and a Toyota Vigo heading for Sai Yok from Kanchanaburi.

The road is being widened in the area where the collision occurred. Both vehicles ended up off to one side of the road.

The Toyota Tiger's driver, Manop Charoensuk, was crushed to death behind the wheel.  One man, a Myanmar migrant worker, was found lying dead on the ground.  Another man, who was not identified, had a deep cut in his neck and died on the way to hospital.

The Toyota Vigo's driver, Santi Kachayut, 30, and two women -- Ubonwanna Phoemnam, 44, and Sod Phoemnam, 69 -- were injured.

Police were investigating what led to the collision.
