Thai, Malaysian arrested - speed, heroin seized

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT - Two members of a drug smuggling gang, including a Thai and a Malaysian national, were arrested after 300,000 speed pills and 65 kilos of heroin were found hidden in their car in Tham Pannara district on Wednesday.

Police manning a checkpoint on Asia 41 Road in tambon Dusit stopped a black Toyota car with a Songkhla licence plate and noticed two men on board who looked suspicious.

A search uncovered 300,000 methamphetamine tablets and 130 bars of heroin weighing 65kg hidden under the car mat in the boot.

The two men, identified as Manot Bainawee, 52, of Satun and Jeffrey Bin Embai, 45, a Malaysian national, were apprehended on charges of illegal possession of narcotics with intent to sell.

The duo said they had delivered illicit drugs to agents in the South on several occasions before being caught.

They were held in police custody at Tham Pannara police station. Police have launched an extended investigation.
