NAKHON RATCHASIMA - The Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo is introducing its new members to the public this Songkran holiday - a baby white deer and two baby meerkats, zoo director Arkhom Maneekul said.

Mr Arkhom said the three animals were born in mid-March.

The white deer fawn, a male, had only just learned how to forage for himself, he said. The parents previously would not allow people to get near him. White deer are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1992.

The two meerkat pups, gender still not known, were strong and healthy. The meerkat is native to southern Africa and a member of the same family as the mongoose, Mr Arkhom said.

The three newcomers were now waiting for visitors to the zoo, he said.
