TAK: One man was killed and six others hurt, one seriously, when an interprovincial bus heading to Lampang rear-ended a truck in Sam Ngao district in the early hours of Saturday.

The crash occurred between kilometre makers 572 and 573 on Phahon Yothin Road in tambon Wang Chan, said Pol Lt Col Surat Nitjasin, investigation chief at the Sam Ngao police station, which responded to the incident around 4am.

Officers found the tour bus, travelling from Bangkok to Lampang, crashed into the rear of the 10-wheel truck loaded with animal feed when they arrived at the scene, Thai media reported.

The force of the crash killed bus employee Charan Torchim, 21, instantly and his body was torn apart. The six people injured included four passengers, the bus driver and a female bus attendant.

Driver Yothin Huayphra, 42, was the most seriously hurt. All were taken to a nearby hospital.

The crash also caused the truck to overturn, scattering sacks of animal feed across the road. Driver Anuwat Roddecha, 40, was unhurt.

Police said they believed the bus driver might have fallen asleep at the wheel.
