SUPHAN BURI - An elderly former university lecturer and her seven dogs were killed in a fire that hit two houses in Bang Pla Ma district on Sunday morning, police said.
A large Thai-style house and a wooden house at Lan Kha village in tambon Khok Khram went up in flames shortly before 8am.
Firefighters with a number of fire engines were able to put out the fire in about one hour after it had completely destroyed the two houses, said Pol Capt Ong-art Chaisuriyong of Bang Pla Ma police station.
Found in one were the charred remains of Fongsawat Wongphan, 77, a former lecturer of Phetchaburi Rajabhat University, and her seven dogs.
Witnesses told the police that the woman, who was unmarried, lived alone in the large Thai-style house with her dogs.
The cause of the fire was being investigated. The damage was estimated at 4 million baht.
