TAK - A "Samurai cave" in Mae Ramat district are luring Japanese tourists who take a trip to visit the place used by soldiers during World War II.

District chief Wathit Pannakhom said on Wednesday that the number of Japanese visitors to the cave and surrounding areas increased since authorities had joined the Tak Tourism Association to develop the place for tourists.

The cave is located at Ban Teen That and labelled by local residents as the Samurai cave. It was found during a survey by people and authorities in the district.

It was used by Japanese soldiers as a rest stop and weapon storage during the wartime, according to the district chief. The area outside the cave was also used for burying soldiers who died at war, he added.

Many belongings and equipment, including a sword, were found inside the cave and nearby areas.
