A summer storms warning has been issued for the North, Northeast, East and Central Plain regions on Friday and Saturday, brought by a high pressure area from China.
Wanchai Sakudomchai, director-general of the Meteorological Department, said on Friday the high pressure zone was moving over the Northeast and the South China, while temperatures remained high.
Storms were likely in all northern provinces. In the Northeast Buri Ram, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Loei, Maha Sarakham, Nakhon Ratchasima, Roi Et, Si Sa Ket, Surin and Yasothon were most likely to be affected.
The warning also extended to the eastern provinces of Chachoengsao, Chanthaburi, Chon Buri, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Rayong, Sa Kaeo and Trat. In the Central Plain, summer storms are forecast for greater Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, Lop Buri, Nakhon Sawan, Ratchaburi, Saraburi, Suphan Buri and Uthai Thani.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that storms damaged 295 houses in 30 villages of two northern provinces on Wednesday and Thursday, Phichit and Tak, and the northeastern province of Nong Khai.
