District chief, another man seriously hurt in crash

NAKHON RATCHASIMA - The Chum Phuang district chief and another man were seriously injured when their pick-up trucks collided head-on in Phimai district on Sunday.

Pol Lt Col Denchai Chamnannaimuang, the Phimai police duty officer, said the accident occurred between kilometre markers 14-15 on Phimai-Chum Phuang Road near Ban Nong Chik at about 2pm.

Witnesses told police that Tossapol Yuthasinkul, 52, the Chum Phuang district chief, was driving from his house in Nakhon Ratchasima township to chair a funeral at Wat Ban Lawo in Chum Phuang district when his bronze four-door Isuzu D-max pickup with the logo of the Provincial Administration Department collided head-on with a black Isuzu D-max driven by Phuthep Boonruang, 54, of Nonthaburi's Pak Kret district.

Both vehicles were badly damaged, while Mr Tossapol and Mr Phuthep were seriously injured.  The injured were admitted to Phimai Hospital.

On learning of the accident, Vichien Chantaranothai, the Nakhon Ratchasima governor,went to visit Mr Tossapol who was being treated in an intensive care unit.
