'Boss' leaves private jet in Singapore

Interpol has confirmed that Red Bull scion Vorayuth Yoovidhya abandoned his private jet in Singapore before leaving the city-state on April 27.

Pol Maj Gen Apichart Suriboonya, chief of the Royal Thai Police's Foreign Affairs Division, said yesterday that Interpol's office in Singapore had told him Mr Vorayuth left his private jet there.

Pol Maj Gen Apichart, also head of Interpol's office in Thailand, said he had asked Interpol in Singapore to find out if Mr Vorayuth boarded a commercial aircraft to another country.

Interpol in Singapore has confirmed Mr Vorayuth left Singapore on April 27, but it is not known where he went, Pol Maj Gen Apichart said.

He said he had just been informed by Interpol in the UK that they had found no information to suggest that Mr Vorayuth is in the country.

Pol Maj Gen Apichart said police will also ask Interpol to issue an international alert, known as a Blue Notice, to its 190 member countries to locate, identify or obtain information on Mr Vorayuth's whereabouts.

On Tuesday, Pol Lt Gen Nathathorn Prousoontorn, commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, confirmed Mr Vorayuth left Thailand on his private jet at 3pm on April 25. Pol Lt Gen Nathathorn said Mr Vorayuth was allowed to leave the country before the the court issued an arrest warrant for him on April 28.

The Immigration Bureau was informed about the arrest warrant only after Mr Vorayuth left Thailand, Pol Lt Gen Nathathorn said. He added the prosecutors handling the case did not ask the Immigration Bureau to prevent Mr Vorayuth from leaving.

The Red Bull scion, who belongs to one of Thailand's wealthiest families and goes by the nickname "Boss", is the chief suspect in a hit-and-run incident in 2012 that saw Mr Vorayuth's Ferrari collide with a policeman driving a motorcycle. He has repeatedly failed to meet prosecutors over the matter.

The police officer victim was dragged along the road for more than 100 metres and later died.
