Two former policemen have been arrested with his gang members while trafficking methamphetamine pills and dried marijuana to southern provinces, police said on Monday.

The Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) captured Prayad Phola, 42, a former police sergeant major officer of Phone Phisai police station in Nong Khai, and Mongkol Phumpipat, 51, a former police senior sergeant major officer of Ubonrat police in Khon Kaen, were arrested on Saturday with two other men on a road in Ban Mo district in Saraburi.

Police seized 1.2 million pills of yaba and 1,100 bars of dried ganja weighing 1.1 tonnes inside a car during the arrest.

The seized drugs were shown during a briefing for the press on Monday.

The NSB said the arrest followed a tip-off that traffickers would use a white pickup truck to deliver the drugs from Laos to the southern border region.

NSB police found a suspect vehicle in Nong Khai with another car running ahead of it to check the roads on Saturday. They ordered the pickup truck to pull over in Ban Mo district.

Mr Prayad was fired in 2009 after he used a police van to transport 156 pangolins to a client in Phetchaburi. He was also arrested for selling marijuana in Satun two years later before he was imprisoned.

Mr Mongkol was dismissed in 2010 after police found ganja in his car in Chumphon.

Two other persons arrested in the drug bust were Sombat Phola, 54, and Jakkri Prasertwongsa, 32.

The relationship between Mr Prayad and Mr Sombat, who bear the same surname, is unclear.
