100kg of crystal meth seized after car chase

SONGKHLA - A drug courier suspect has been arrested and 100kg of crystal methamphetamine, or <i>ya ice</i>, worth 200 million baht seized following a car chase in this southern province.

Khanchit Seesuk, 47, of Trang’s Huai Yot district, was caught after fleeing from narcotics suppression police in his white Fortuner on Thursday evening. He was pursued and finally stopped on Asia Road in tambon Tha Chang, Bang Klam district Songkhla.

A search found 100kg of crystal methamphetamine hidden inside the vehicle, which had Trang plates,  Pol Maj Gen Sakhon Thongmunee, chief of the Provincial Police Region 9, told a media briefing on Friday.

The drug haul had a face value of about 200 million baht.

Police also seized 40,000 baht cash and a 75-gram gold necklace from Mr Khanchit.

A preliminary investigation found the seized drugs came from a Wa trafficker in the North who had partners in Phatthalung and Songkhla provinces. The drugs were destined for customers in the South.

The investigation into the drug network was being extended in the North and the South.
