TAK - Fourteen pupils were injured, one seriously, when a thunderbolt hit a tree under which they were sitting for an activity at their school in Umphang district.

The incident was reported at about 2.30pm at the school run by border patrol police in Ban Mae Klong Yai village in tambon Mokro.

It was not raining but the sky was overcast and there was thunder while pupils were gathering under the big tree beside a school building.

Teachers and villagers drove their own vehicles to send the injured to Umphang Hospital, about one hour and a half away.

A 12-year-old pupil was in critical condition after a cardiac arrest. He remained in an intensive care unit. Other children suffered numbness and hearing impairment.
