430kg of marijuana seized near Mekong

BUNG KAN: Authorities seized 430 kilogrammes of compressed marijuana that had been abandoned alongside a road near the Mekong River in Bung Khong Long district early Saturday.

A combined force of police, rangers and navy officers were deployed to the area near Thanon Phue Kankaset in tambon Dong Bang after receiving information that several suspicious sacks had been left along the road around 1am Saturday.

The officers waited for several hours but nobody showed up to pick up the sacks. At around 5am, the officers checked and found 11 sacks containing 430 one-kilogramme bars of compressed marijuana. The drugs had a street value of at least 2 million baht, Thai media reported.

The drugs were seized and handed over to officers at the Laoluang police station in Bung Kan district.
