PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: Three men were arrested with more than 900,000 methamphetamine pills - valued at about 280 million baht - in Sam Roi Yot district on Thursday.

The three suspects were identified as Suthat Krajaisri, 45, of Surin; Khamron Chan-on, 31, of Phetchabun; and Pathomporn Pornsangiemnukul, 27, of Rayong.

They were detained at a police checkpoint in front of Sam Roi Yot police station in tambon Sila Yoi at 12.30pm on Thursday.

According to Sam Roi Yot police, Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) investigators asked them to help intercept two vehicles, heading for the South, suspected of transporting speed pills.

The vehicles were a black Isuzu pickup truck and a white Mazda sedan, both with Bangkok licence plates.

When the vehicle approached the checkpoint, police pulled them over and conducted a joint search with NSB officers who had been pursuing the suspects.

Police found speed pills hidden in speaker cabinets in the rear seat of the sedan driven by Mr Pathomporn. An X-ray scan later revealed 456 packets of speed pills, or about 912,000 pills in total, inside the cabinets.

However, no illicit drugs were found in the pickup truck with Mr Suthat and Mr Khamron on board.

During a police inquiry, the trio confessed they were hired for 50,000 baht each to deliver the illegal drugs to a man in Songkhla.

All three have been charged with possession of illicit drugs with intent to sell.

Based on the information they provided, NSB authorities believe they will be able to make further arrests.
