Another tour group stranded in Trang

TRANG - Five tourists filed a complaint with police on Wednesday, accusing a travel agent of leaving them at a hotel instead of taking them to enjoy the Andaman Sea.

Jidapa Klinsrisook and four of her friends expected a representative of Mandawee Tour to pick them up at a hotel for a trip to the sea.

She said the guide never showed up. After a fruitless phone call to the office of the travel agent in Bangkok, Mrs Jindapa decided to seek help from Muang police station.

"We planned to travel in Trang province and then Krabi province. I can't believe that we ended up at a police station," said Mrs Jidapa, who is the wife of the Hua Thale police station chief in Chaiyaphum province.

"I'm so disappointed", she said. "I woke up and was ready to take a trip but the agent never showed up, leaving me and my friends with nowhere to go despite paying all the money." She demanded that the money be fully refunded.

It was the second time in three days that a tour group was left stranded in the southern province. A group of students visiting Trang with another agent paid a visit to the same police station on Monday.

Mrs Jidapa said she and her friends bought tour packages costing 20,000 baht each from Mandawee Tour at the Thai Teaw Thai exhibition at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in March, trusting the credibility of the event.

Officers at Muang police station referred the case to the province's tourist police, saying it was not in their jurisdiction.

Karuna Dechatiwong Na Ayutthaya, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand office in Trang, said the office would help police with the case as it damaged the image of tourism in Trang.
