Rocker ready for another charity marathon

Rocker Artiwara Kongmalai, aka Toon Body Slam, wants to embark on another charity marathon from the South to the North to raise funds for medical equipment for hospitals, permanent secretary of the Public Health Minister Sopon Mekthon said Thursday.

Dr Sopon said that the singer and his team came to meet him on Wednesday to propose the run.

"The Ministry of Public Health must thank Khun Toon for his interest in participating raising money for hospitals.

"It's in line with the government's Pracharath [public-private collaboration] scheme which promotes public participation. Khun Toon is a healthy man because he exercises regularly, and he wants others to take care of their health more," he said.

"However, Khun Toon is concerned that his help would be seen as trying to salvage hospitals beset by financial problems, which is not his objective," he said, adding that the singer wanted to invite people to participate in the marathon to raise awareness of preventative health measures.

Artiwara acknowledged that there are a lot of hospitals under the Public Health Ministry which would benefit from having adequate and the latest medical equipment, the doctor said.

Dr Sopon said the details of the project would be announced later.

In December last year, Artiwara completed a 400km charity marathon to raise funds for Bang Saphan Hospital in Prachuap Khiri Khan.
