NAKHON RATCHASIMA - Fifteen passengers were injured when their interprovincial bus ran into the dividing ditch on the Mittraphap Highway in Muang district early on Monday morning.

The accident, near Pak Thong Chai intersection in tambon Pho Klang, was reported to police about 2.15am.

Emergency units found a white bus belonging to Esan Tour Co and registered in Khon Kaen province in the median strip ditch dividing the highway. Rescue workers took 15 injured passengers to three local hospitals. There were no fatalities.

The driver, Jak Panklang, 65, said he was taking 28 people from Khon Kaen to Bangkok. The bus had left Khon Kaen at 10pm Sunday and made a stop at the second bus terminal at Nakhon Ratchasima about 2am.

After the break, he was following another air-conditioned bus along the highway. It suddenly slowed down. He swerved to avoid a crash, lost control of his bus and it ran into the ditch dividing the highway. It had just started raining, he explained.
