Accident kills 4, injures 2 in Phetchaburi

PHETCHABURI -- A pick-up truck skidded off the road and rammed into a tree on the median strip in Cha-am district early on Sunday, killing four passengers and injuring two others, police said.

Pol Lt Col Chukiat Phetthae, a Cha-am police investigator, said the accident occurred at about 5.20am at kilometre marker No 6 on Cha-am - Pran Buri road.

The four-door Mitsubishi Triton was carrying six people.

Found dead in the vehicle were Subin Thesphan, 31, the driver, his wife Pacharapha Krachang, 35, their six-month-old daughter Natthida and Subin's mother Nathaporn Champeethong, 52.

Two girls -- Wipaporn Krachang, 19, and Nattiya Kaewpan, 13 -- were seriously injured.  They were rushed to Cha-am Hospital and later transferred to Phra Chomklao Hospital in Phetchaburi municipality.

A police investigation revealed that all six people in the vehicle were relatives, travelling to Phetchaburi from Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Police were investigating the cause of the accident.  It was initially believed Subin fell asleep at the wheel.
