The Bank of Thailand has unveiled a new set of banknotes in all available denominations in remembrance of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The 20-baht, 50-baht, 100-baht, 500-baht and 1,000-baht banknotes are the same size and have the same frontal designs as the current issue. The main element is on the reverse side of each denomination, which reflect stories of his lifetime, central bank governor Veerathai Santiprabhob said.

The lowest denomination depicts the early life of the late King, followed by royal ceremonies and duties in the early years of his accession; his royal duties in rural areas; his wisdom and talents reflected through royal projects and the reign of the beloved King of Thai people, according to the central bank’s press release.

The new banknotes will be put into circulation on Sept 20 and will be available at all branches of all banks.

There is no time limit on exchanging the old banknots for the new, as they would circulate naturally through the system, so the public do not need to rush to exchange their money on Sept 20, Mr Veerathai said.
