A representative of the alumni association of Samsenwittayalai School claimed on Thursday that 7 million baht in bribes had been paid for the admission of 200 students, demanding the transfers of all school executives to facilitate a probe.

Chana Wongmusik, vice-president of the alumni association, said he handed a list of 200 students in Mathayom 1 (Grade 7) and Mathayom 4 (Grade 10) newly admitted to the secondary school to the Office of Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC). The list included the names of some people who requested admission favours for certain students, he said.

According to him, 7 million baht in cash was paid as bribes for the admission of the 200 students. After bribery allegations made headlines, the management of the school retroactively issued receipts for the payments.

Mr Chana said the acceptance of financial assistance without a receipt was unacceptable to the alumni association and he did not know where the money was.

Although the school director was transferred, other executives of the director's managerial team remained, he said. He called for their transfers.

PACC secretary-general Prayong Preeyachitt said his organisation guaranteed comprehensive investigation into the issue for the sake of justice.

It was also checking if a relevant video clip was doctored. The investigation progressed well due to cooperation from parents and teachers, he said. He expected the probe would be concluded within next month.

The school made headlines last month after a parent circulated a video clip allegedly showing the school director, Viroj Samruan, receiving money for accepting his child into Mathayom 1.

Mr Viroj earlier said he was the victim of a plot to oust him by disgruntled alumni whose children were not admitted to the school. He has been reassigned to work at the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 1 while the probe is carried out.
