A bag containing 1.1-million-baht cash has been collected by a female bus conductor on Sai Tai Mai-Pak Nam route.

The money was eventually returned to its owner, an absent-minded gynaecologist, who was grateful enough to reward the conductor with "two packs of snacks", according to the Daily News newspaper.

Sumon Mahidun, 50, who works on air-conditioned bus No 511, told police on Sunday that when she was cleaning up the bus at its stop in Pak Nam in Samut Prakan, she came across a black bag - and remembered who had left it.

Meanwhile, the bag's owner - identified only as a 33-year-old gynaecologist - realised his mistake as he prepared to deposit the money into a bank. Recognising that he was in a sticky situation - even by his standards - he rushed to the police station and after showing his bank book, and with the cooperation of the conductor, was able to extract the missing money.

The man told police he previously worked at a hospital in Chon Buri's Sri Racha district before moving to a hospital on Bang Na Trat road. He had withdrawn the cash from banks in Chon Buri, intending to deposit it at a bank near his new workplace.

On Sunday he travelled from Sri Racha to Bang Na district before taking the bus to Big C hypermarket in Pu Chao Saming Phrai.

"I simply got off the bus, leaving my bag on the floor," he said.

It was not reported whether he had been similarly forgetful during his work shifts.
