Flooding in 18 districts of Sakon Nakhon province of the Northeast is still causing anxiety and serious problems, according to the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office.
The affected districts are Muang, Kusuman, Kut Bak, Phanna Nikhom, Phang Khon, Waritchaphum, Nikhom Nam Un, Wanon Niwat, Kham Ta Kla, Ban Muang, Akat Amnuay, Sawang Daen Din, Song Dao, Tao Ngoy, Khok Si Suphan, Charoensin, Phon Na Kaeo and Phu Phan.
Muang district is hardest hit, with a huge amount of floodwater expected to take considerable time to be completely drained out.
In nearby Ban Dung district of Udon Thani province, Wat Pa Kham Chanot, a famous tourist spot, has been closed temporarily to tourists.
In Kalasin province, the flooding has inundated 439 villages in 70 tambons across 15 districts, affecting more than 10,000 households. Eleven districts have been declared disaster zones.
In Nakhon Ratchasima, people in Prathai, Non Daeng and Chum Phuang districts have been warned to brace for flooding and move their belongings to higher grounds as they are in the path of incoming floodwater from Sida and Bua Yai districts.
In Buri Ram, three houses were swept away by strong water currents in Phutthaisong district. It was said to be the province's most serious flooding in 20 years.
In Ubon Ratchathani, the water level in the Mun river in Muang and Warin Chamrap districts was only 50 centimetres below the rim of its banks, and overflow was imminent. A floodwall along the bank has been reinforced with sanbags to stave off flooding of the districts' economic zones.
