SAKON NAKHON -- The water level in the municipal area of Muang district has dropped by 10-15 centimetres and is receding steadily, according to media reports.

However, low-lying areas - including the city's central business district around Rath Pattana road - is still under 1.00-1.50 metres of water.  The electricity supply along the road has been cut.

Residents at many spots along the road have pleaded for food, drinking water and medicine, particularly for foot infections.

In the Nong Sanom community -- where hotels, apartments and several hundred houses are located -- the water level is still 1.80cm - 2m high as it has absorbed copious amounts of runoff water from the Phu Phan mountain.

The provincial authority has set up a flood relief centre at the gymnasium of the Sport Authority of Thailand, which is now the temporary home of hundreds of flood evacuees.  It has also served as a medical centre.
