People nationwide made merits and extended best wishes for Her Majesty the Queen of King Rama IX on Her Majesty's 85th birthday anniversary on Saturday.
The activities were held in the morning when administrative authorities led people to give alms to Buddhist monks.
At the Royal Plaza in Bangkok, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the activities joined by privy councillors, cabinet ministers, government officials, representatives of the private sector and the public.
They gave alms to 851 Buddhist monks. The activities were also aimed at making merits for the late King Rama IX.
Dried foods and necessities were also gathered on the same occasion to be given to flood victims in the Northeast through an aid distribution centre of His Majesty King Rama X.
More activities to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen's birthday, which is also designated as the Mother's Day, were planned at the Royal Plaza Saturday evening. They included a candle-lit event to express best wishes to Her Majesty the Queen, music performances and traditional Thai clothing shows.
