Members of the public have filed 1,320 cases against "crooked" state officials in the first month of operations of a new complaint centre, according to the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

After reviews by an army panel, the centre has forwarded 129 cases, or almost 10% of the total, to the Centre for National Anti-Corruption, which is working with other state anti-corruption agencies, deputy NCPO spokeswoman Sirichan Ngathong said on Saturday.

She said 666 of the complaints were not related to the corruption and had been sent to the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office. Another 110 complaints about soldiers, police and narcotics suppression officials have been sent to the respective agencies where those officials are working.

The centre is still waiting for more information on 11 cases that could require further screening, she said.

However, the centre found 404 cases without sufficient information to go ahead with any action.

Col Sirichan said the NCPO wanted to thank the public for reporting malpractice by state officials, which was useful for further investigation in line with the NCPO’s policy to eradicate corruption.

She said the centre would give priority to cases related to corruption and urged the public to prepare sufficient supporting information before filing reports.
